Science Meets Mind - Clinical Hypnotherapy

Therapy designed for the people traditional therapy often doesn’t reach.

If you’ve ever left a session feeling smarter but not better,
heard but not truly understood,
seen—but still somehow missed…

This practice was created with you in mind.

At Science Meets Mind, therapy doesn’t mean reliving pain or performing insight.

It means reconnecting with the parts of you that never stopped trying to survive.
It means using science, story, and safety—not shame—as the foundation for change.

Especially if talk therapy hasn’t worked.
Especially if you’ve felt dismissed, misunderstood, or pathologized by the systems meant to help you.
Especially if you’re tired of trying to explain your pain—only to be met with blank stares, checklists, or a referral slip.

If that’s your experience, we should talk.
Because that’s what brought me here too.

I’ve walked through the frustration of not being believed.
I’ve lived the disconnect of knowing something’s wrong but being told “you’re fine.”
And I’ve seen firsthand, both personally and professionally, how broken our systems can feel—especially for those with trauma, neurodivergence, chronic conditions, or complex emotional landscapes.

That’s exactly why I fell in love with this modality.

Clinical hypnotherapy is different. It’s evidence-based, collaborative, and surprisingly gentle.

With over 30 years of research behind it, clinical hypnotherapy is used worldwide to support healing across the mental, emotional, physical, and neurological spectrum. It’s not fringe—it’s neuroscience-informed, trauma-sensitive, and designed to work with your nervous system, not against it.

This approach helps quiet the noise of survival mode so you can reconnect with the part of you that’s been quietly trying to help all along: your subconscious.
And yes—it has a lot to say when we learn how to listen.

What makes this work different?

You don’t need to explain everything.
You don’t need to make eye contact.
You don’t even have to talk, if you don’t want to.

There is no pressure here. No performance. No “doing it right.”
Just space. Just presence. Just care built around you.

We create safety first—and healing follows.
We use language your subconscious actually understands: metaphor, imagery, symbol, rhythm, sensory experience.
We move gently, but we move deeply.
And often, this work helps people shift patterns they’ve carried for years—in ways that feel surprisingly easeful.

My belief is simple:

You are not broken.

You may be tired. You may be overwhelmed. You may be grieving the time lost to dysregulation, burnout, or shame.

But broken? No.

You are complex, brilliant, and still here—and that means the door to healing is still open.

My job is to help you step through that door, on your terms, at your pace, with a hand on your shoulder and a space that finally, finally feels safe.

A woman in a brown winter coat with a fur-lined hood looking at a cozy illuminated log cabin in a snowy forest during winter.
A woman walking through a grand, historic library with towering wooden bookshelves, ornate stained glass windows, and warm lighting.

We create your own oasis in trance. It’s the basis of all we do.

Safe Spaces are established from the very beginning and become your sanctuary.

They are as individual as you are and become the space where we start all of our work. Your safe space is for you, and you alone.

Our first stop is the library.

What is Clinical Hypnotherapy?

It’s not what you think it is!

Forget what you’ve seen on TV—this isn’t stage hypnosis or mind control. This is real, evidence-based therapy that works with your brain, not against it. And just to clear the air—if I happen to keel over during our session, don’t worry! You won’t be stuck in hypnosis like Peter Gibbons in that famous Office Space scene where he gets hypnotized into a state of bliss, only to have his therapist die mid-session! Instead, you’ll just take a short nap and wake up feeling refreshed and renewed.

Watch the scene here to see what I mean!

I'll admit, when I first heard about hypnotherapy, this is what I thought of too! I mean, Office Space is an amazing film, and as a millennial, I appreciate it for what it is. While the movie scene does capture the essence of relaxation, let me assure you that our approach is much more comprehensive.

Clinical hypnotherapy is a gentle, evidence-based way to engage with the part of your mind that stores habits, patterns, and emotional responses—especially those pesky ones that resist talk therapy alone. Research featured in the Canadian Journal of Nursing Research (2015) highlights its efficacy in managing anxiety and stress-related disorders (Gordon, 2015).

Grounded in neuroscience and completely trauma-informed, we use guided focus, calming imagery, and deep relaxation techniques tailored specifically to you. This helps your brain process what's been stuck and start forming new, healthier pathways. Remember, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis—you’re always in the driver’s seat, even if it feels a bit like cruising in a cozy dream state!

You’re not being “put under,” and you’re never out of control. You’re fully present the entire time. My role is simply to guide the process in a safe, personalized, and supportive way—so your system can settle, your mind can shift, and real change can begin.

Using these techniques, we help the brain process stuck experiences and start forming new, adaptive pathways—without reliving trauma or overwhelming your system. This isn’t about losing control; it’s a collaborative, structured process that supports emotional regulation and promotes real, sustainable change.

And for the duration of my practicum, it’s completely free! So, why not take this opportunity to experience some healing and transformation? Just remember: if you start feeling too relaxed, I promise I won’t let you turn into a permanent napper—unless you want to, of course!

FAQs

What’s the difference between stage hypnotists and clinical hypnotherapists?

Stage hypnosis is a form of entertainment. It’s designed to be dramatic, flashy, and often involves volunteers performing exaggerated behaviors for an audience. While it may use some of the same principles of focus and suggestion, the goal is performance—not healing.

Clinical hypnotherapy, on the other hand, is a trauma-informed, evidence-based therapeutic approach garounded in neuroscience and psychology. It’s used to support emotional regulation, behavior change, and mental health—much like other therapeutic modalities, but with a focus on working directly with the subconscious mind.

In short: Stage hypnosis is a show. Clinical hypnotherapy is legitimate therapy. We work together to explore the map of your mind.
You are always supported, respected, and always in charge of your own experience.

Isn’t it mind control though… really?

Nope. I get why it might seem that way—especially if your only exposure to hypnosis has been TV, TikTok, or stage shows. But clinical hypnotherapy is not mind control.

You can’t be made to do or say anything you don’t want to.
You won’t reveal secrets or hand over control.
You’re not asleep or unconscious.

In fact, you’re more aware—not less. Your focus is simply narrowed in a way that allows you to engage more deeply with your own thoughts, memories, and inner experiences. Think of it like being really immersed in a good book or movie—you’re still you, you’re just more open to reflection and insight.

Everything we do in session is collaborative, intentional, and completely consent-based. You can stop at any time. And if something doesn’t feel right, we shift gears—together.

So no, it’s not mind control.
It’s not manipulation.
It’s not magic.

It’s neuroscience, rapport, and safety—all working together to help you explore the deeper layers of your own mind.
And I’m just here to guide the process

What if I can’t visualize, don’t trust easily, or have a hard time relaxing—can clinical hypnotherapy still help me?

Yes. 100%.

You do not need to be able to visualize vivid images to benefit from clinical hypnotherapy. Visualization is just one of many ways we engage the subconscious. We can work with sound, sensation, emotion, memory, or even metaphor—whatever feels most accessible for you.

Some clients feel warmth.
Some hear words.
Some notice a shift in breath or body.
Some just feel a little bit safer than they did before.

That’s all valid. That’s all therapeutic. That’s all enough.

As for relaxation and trust—those take time. And that’s okay. You’re not expected to show up ready to drop in instantly. We go at your pace. Every session is shaped around your comfort, your boundaries, and your nervous system.

Hypnotherapy isn't about “doing it right”—it’s about being met where you are.
And that’s exactly what we’ll do—together.

Will I bring up repressed trauma in hypnosis that I can't remember and won't be able to manage?

This is a common and completely valid concern—especially if you’ve experienced trauma or if your nervous system is used to protecting you from overwhelming memories.

The short answer is: No, you will not be “forced” to remember anything you’re not ready for.

Hypnotherapy is client-led, trauma-informed, and respectful of your nervous system’s natural defenses. Your subconscious will only bring forward what you are ready to process. We don’t go digging for repressed memories, and nothing will be “unlocked” without your participation and consent.

If difficult material does surface, we move slowly and carefully. You’re never alone in that process. You are always in control of the session, and I will guide you with safety and skill—using grounding techniques, gentle pacing, and evidence based tools to help you stay regulated.

In fact, many clients find that hypnotherapy helps them process current emotional patterns or body sensations without needing to revisit specific memories at all. This is because we focus on the feelings of what happens in trauma, we don’t relive it.

You're invited to release what no longer serves you—and we do that together, at your pace. We can stop, pause or redirect any session when you need to.

Why do I have to book a meet & greet if sessions are free?

Even though sessions are free right now, the meet & greet is a necessary first step—for both of us.

Clinical hypnotherapy is deeply collaborative, and the success of this work depends on the quality of the relationship between practitioner and client. The meet & greet helps us both get a sense of whether we’re a good fit. You deserve to work with someone you feel comfortable with—and I want to make sure I can support you in a way that feels safe and aligned.

Some people won’t vibe with my approach—and that’s totally okay. This space is built on honesty, consent, and connection. The meet & greet is how we make sure we’re starting from the right foundation.

Do you offer group sessions or couples therapy?

At this time, I only offer individual sessions as part of my practicum. Clinical hypnotherapy is a highly personalized process, and it's important that each person has the space to explore their own experience without distraction.

That said, group work and couples sessions are absolutely in the plans for the future—once my certification is complete and I can offer those experiences in a way that’s safe, structured, and effective for everyone involved.

If you're interested in that kind of work, feel free to stay connected—I'd love to keep you in the loop when those options become available.

Do you offer in-person sessions, or just online?

Both! Starting July 8, 2025, I’ll be offering in-person sessions alongside my ongoing virtual sessions.

Whether you prefer the comfort of your own space or the grounding presence of being in the room together, you’ll be able to choose the option that feels best for you.

Details on the in-person location and how to book will be available soon—and if you’d like to be first to know when spots open, just reach out.

What are the expectations for volunteers who are accepted into my practicum?

To participate in my practicum-based clinical hypnotherapy practice, here’s what you can expect—and what I kindly ask in return:

  1. Attend a free 30-minute meet & greet
This gives us a chance to connect, ensure we’re a good fit, and set the tone for safe, supportive work together.

  2. Commit to a minimum of 5 sessions
Hypnotherapy works best when it has room to build momentum. Five sessions allow us to set goals, build trust, and see meaningful shifts unfold.

  3. Take part in collaborative goal planning
We’ll identify 1–3 areas you’d like to focus on so each session is grounded, intentional, and tailored to your needs.

  4. Provide honest feedback
If something isn’t working for you, I want to know. Your comfort matters. This is your care, and I’m here to adapt and support you as best I can.

  5. Help spread the word (if you feel called, no pressure!)
This practice is built on connection and word of mouth. If your experience has been helpful, please consider sharing it with others. Your voice may be the reason someone else feels safe to begin.

About Me

Hi, I’m Kiana (pronounced like piranha, not banana)! My pronouns are she/her/hers, and I believe in the importance of getting names right—yours included.

As a Student Registered Nurse and Student Clinical Hypnotherapist graduating in January 2026, I’m passionate about trauma-informed, neuroscience-based care that is personalized, compassionate, and results-driven.

I specialize in supporting those with complex stories often overlooked in traditional healthcare. My approach is gentle and collaborative, designed to meet your nervous system where it’s at—no rushing, no pushing—just presence and professional support that honors your feelings.

Who I Support

I welcome anyone who feels this space might be a fit, particularly focusing on:

  • Neurodivergent clients (ADHD, Autism)

  • Individuals navigating C-PTSD, PTSD, or BPD

  • Those dealing with anxiety, phobias, or emotional overwhelm

  • People struggling with food, body-based shame, or disordered eating

  • Clients seeking help with anger, relationship patterns, or regulation challenges

  • Children and families needing gentle, imaginative, regulation-focused care

Why I Do This Work

First and foremost, I love it. I am continually amazed by how clinical hypnotherapy can yield profound transformations in just one session—helping people fall in love with themselves for the first time and achieving rapid, long-lasting results. Our subconscious is incredibly powerful and remarkably productive.

I understand the importance of feeling seen, which is why my vision is to create a clinic where women who have struggled to be recognized within our healthcare system can access the mental and physical health support they deserve. As a Nurse Practitioner, I plan to practice in family care, helping those who have been waiting for a family practitioner get off the list and into a practice that truly cares—revolutionizing the experience of care.

This dream has always been a dream, and although it is in its infancy, it’s starting to come to life. I will graduate as a Registered Nurse in 2026, then enroll in my Master’s in Counseling in 2029. In 2030, I aim to begin my Nurse Practitioner program, with the goal of opening my family practice by 2033.

Clinical hypnotherapy has been a path I didn’t expect, but it has become one that I absolutely love. I’m committed to identifying the gaps in our healthcare system and filling them with alternatives that prioritize well-being. Healthcare doesn’t have to be this way—it can be better. I’m doing my part to show that to the world.

Outside of sessions, I’m a writer and storyteller. My memoir-in-progress, Howl If You Hear Me, explores trauma, identity, and healing through lived experience. It shares its name with my podcast, where I discuss the topics we’re often told to hide.

You’re Not Too Much. You’re Not Too Broken. You’re Not Too Late.

If you’re ready to explore healing grounded in safety, science, and belief in your story, this space was built for you.

✨ All sessions are free during my practicum.

✨ In-person and online options available starting July 8, 2025.

✨ Come as you are. We’ll start from there.

My Clinical Approach

My approach is trauma-informed, neuroscience-based, and client-led. Everything we do together is grounded in research but shaped by you. I don’t believe in quick fixes or surface-level solutions. Every session is designed to meet your nervous system with curiosity, safety, and compassion.

Clinical hypnotherapy allows us to gently access the subconscious—the part of the mind responsible for patterns, emotions, and protective responses that traditional talk therapy sometimes can’t reach. Drawing from my training as a Student Nurse and a Student Clinical Hypnotherapist, I provide holistic, ethical care that respects your healing process as both biological and relational.

Why My Approach to Therapy Is Different

If you feel disenfranchised with healthcare in Canada, tired of being treated like just a number, or frustrated by being dismissed, I hear you. I’ve experienced this too, and I’m here to change the experience of care, one client at a time.

In our sessions:

  • You don’t have to explain your pain twice.

  • You won’t be rushed, judged, or blamed.

  • We work together as partners, not in a hierarchy.

  • You’re treated like a human, not a diagnosis.

I believe in collaborative care—where traditional medicine and complementary approaches work together to support the whole person. Therapy should be gentle, evidence-informed, and deeply respectful of your lived experience. My mantra is simple: It doesn’t have to be this way.

How My Practice Is Part of the Change

I offer a gentler, body-based, and subconscious-informed approach to healing. My commitment is to understand how you process, feel safe, and heal, and to support you with that in mind.

We use structure, but it’s shaped around you. If you don’t like eye contact, we skip it. If you don’t want to talk much, we keep it minimal and delve deeper in trance. If you love discussing things, we can absolutely do that too. There’s no “right” way to heal—only your way.

My Therapeutic Style

My style is gentle, symbolic, and subconscious-informed. I use art and metaphor to access parts of your brain and story that are often overlooked in traditional therapy. Your subconscious speaks in symbols and sensations, and we meet it on its terms.

From day one, we build a relationship with your subconscious by speaking its language, starting with your personal mantra woven in metaphor and meaning. This is not a script; it’s a conversation.

What Homework Looks Like Here

Homework might include:

  • Talking to a trusted pet about something you can’t yet say to a person

  • Walking along the ocean and noticing every sound you hear

  • Running your fingers through sand and letting your body lead the reflection

  • Creating art for expression, not aesthetics

  • Sitting with a metaphor until it gently unfolds its message

This work is active, intentional, and relational—not just between you and me, but also between you and yourself.

What You Can Expect

We listen to your body’s cues, slow down when needed, and celebrate when something shifts. You will never be asked to push past your limits. This is therapy done with you, not to you.

In our partnership, healing can feel safe, subtle, powerful, and uniquely yours. You’ll learn how to say no and hold your boundaries, rooting yourself in the truth of who you are.

You're Not Broken

You’re not too much or failing; you’re simply in survival mode, and that makes perfect sense. We don’t need to "fix" you—we need to reconnect you with your body, your rhythm, and your truth. My role is to provide personalized, ethical, creative, and kind care. Your role is to be curious. You don’t have to be ready; just be willing to begin.

What to Expect in Your 30-Minute Meet & Greet

📍 Available in-person, over the phone, or online

This free 30-minute meet & greet is our first step toward building a foundation of trust. Here’s what we’ll do:

  • Get to know each other and discuss what brings you in

  • Ensure we’re a good therapeutic fit

  • Explore what you need to feel safe and supported

  • Go over what hypnotherapy is—and what it’s not

  • Answer any questions you may have

You won’t be asked to share anything too deep. If we’re a fit, we’ll schedule your first full session; if not, I’ll help you find someone better matched—no pressure, no judgment.

What Happens in Your First Session

Your first session focuses on building safety—in your body, mind, and our space together. We’ll clarify your therapeutic goals, practice grounding strategies, and begin a gentle, personalized hypnotherapy experience. You’ll remain fully awake, aware, and in control, moving at the pace of your nervous system.

What It’s Like to Work With Me

Ongoing sessions are collaborative and personalized, supporting your specific needs. We’ll typically meet for a minimum of 5 sessions to allow your system time to settle, build trust, and integrate change. Together, we’ll explore patterns that shape your life, gently shift beliefs stored beneath the surface, and reconnect you with your sense of safety, agency, and self-trust.

This isn’t therapy that’s done to you; this is therapy that we work together on, created with you and your needs at the basis of all we do.
